Kao Sook Thai Cuisine

Welcome
Kao Sook Thai Cuisine is a traditional family - owned restaurant, bringing intricate flavors and wonderful aromas of Thai herbs and spices to the table. Our homestyle setting is welcoming for families to gather, couples’ night out, or a quick lunch break.
"Kao Sook"
“Kao” meaning “rice” and “Sook” meaning “cooked” or “well-done” pays homage to jasmine white rice, which is a staple that accompanies almost all dishes in Thai cooking. Yes, even the noodles are made from rice! Thai people love to eat rice for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert (sticky rice and mango, anyone?). Rice is so ‘ingrained’ in Thai culture, that we use it as a verb for “to eat”, gin kao, literally means “to eat rice”. A common greeting among Thai people is gin kao reu yung?, meaning “have you eaten yet?”.
A Little Story of Us
Chef/owner Wanlop Kachinthorn immigrated from Thailand to California in the 1985 and his wife, Nantaporn, followed in 1990. By 1995, Wanlop and Nan started their humble beginnings together, gaining experience working for their friends’ restaurants in the Bay Area. With a vision to achieve an American Dream of his own, Wanlop opened his first restaurant in 1999. With his mother’s recipes, Chef Wanlop has dedicated his life to serving people and had found the best way to do so is through his passion for cooking and bringing joy to his dear friends and family, and now to locals and visitors of the Santa Cruz County.
Established in 2011, Kao Sook is located in the heart of Scotts Valley, right in the Scotts Village Shopping Center. With our friendliest and accommodating staff, we are delighted to serve you the next time you stop by!
